What is the Lights for Life 5k?
Every year, we gather as a community to bring awareness to issues surrounding mental health and suicide. The Lights for Life 5K is Project 99’s biggest awareness campaign—it brings students, school staff, families, and the community together to organize, plan, and implement an event to bring light to the sometimes taboo subject of suicide.
Why Do We Organize this Event?
This event allows us to not only share information about signs of suicide and resources to support those in crisis, but our local students are involved in all aspects of this race. They design and manufacture the medals, paint inspirational rocks, design race shirts, time the actual event, and take part in setting up, supporting, and cleaning up after the 5K. Why is this important? If students hear our messages of hope, they are more likely to reach out when they need help.
